. When faced with disorders of the brain or the spine that might require surgical intervention, a multitude of concerns and feelings arise. “What exactly is the problem?” is the first question that always needs a thoughtful answer. Will surgery resolve the problem, what is the best surgical approach, will the surgery leave me better or worse, how do I know which surgeon to trust with my well-being, where should I have the surgery performed, can I afford this surgery? These are all common and highly appropriate questions.

I see it as my role to take the time to fully understand your condition, answer all these questions thoroughly and give you the best advice possible. Every patient who walks into my office or who I see in consultation in the hospital is unique and I treat everyone as such. When you are my patient, I consider not only your immediate medical problem but your personal and emotional needs as well because in order to achieve the best result the whole person needs to be treated.

Often surgical management is not required and I may recommend a variety of non-surgical treatment options. When non-surgical management has not been adequate in resolving the problem or if neurologic compromise is significant, then surgical management is indicated.

Just as every musician strives to continue refining their performance, I do the same, striving to give each patient my very best effort. My confidence in my skills allows me a wide repertoire of techniques to call upon in surgically managing a problem. When operating, I always use a team approach, with specialty-trained nurses, anesthesiologists and another board-certified neurosurgeon or orthopedic spine surgeon. Everyone on the team has input during the surgery to make sure that all important intraoperative issues are recognized.

I want each and every patient who entrusts their care to me to feel that they have received the best treatment possible by a doctor who cares deeply about their well-being. I profoundly appreciate your trust.
