And now for a little history lesson on Doc Martens: On 1 April 1960, the first Dr. Martens boot rolled off the production line at the Griggs family farm of shoemakers in Northamptonshire, England. Today, Dr. Martens is a famous brand that is known across the world and is as iconic as Ray Bans and Levis. From the launch of the classic cherry-red eight-holer on that day in 1960, to the more recent multihued twenty-holers, Doc Martens have been in the vanguard of style and culture for over four decades.

Doc Martens had their humble beginnings with Klaus Marten, a doctor in the German army during WWII. After injuring his ankle in a skiing accident, he found the boots were too uncomfortable on his feet; so he decided to design an improved boot by adding an air-padded soles and soft leather. After the war, he paired with a university friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and went into business selling his boots in 1947. Surprisingly, the comfortable, durable shoes were a big hit with housewives generating 80% of sales in the first decade going from women.

Sales had developed such a great amount of by 1952 that they opened a production line in Munich. In 1959, the organization had become huge enough that Marrtens and Funck took a gander at promoting the footwear universally. British shoe maker R. Griggs Group purchased patent rights to produce the shoes in the United Kingdom. They anglicized the name, marginally re-molded the heel to greatly improve the fit, included the trademark yellow sewing, and trademarked the soles as Airwair.

By the early 1970s, Doc Martens were omnipresent around the climbing British punk rock stars. Sid Vicious was around the first punk to wear Dm's, and soon it appeared all punk fans were wearing them. Doc Martens boots were no more drawn out the footwear of the working population; they were the footwear of renegade youth. Doc Martens had been consumed by mods and glitz rockers, psychobillies and goths, however it was parts of the developing skinhead development who might be the most dreaded wearers. It was due to the activities of a few skinheads that the Dr Marten got connected with savagery. The irony was that even as violent groups such as the skinheads were wearing the boots, they were also on the feet of the police they were clashing with.

By the 2000s, Doc. Martens were sold solely under the Airwair name and came in portions of diverse styles, incorporating traditional dark shoes, shoes and steel-toed boots. In April 2003, under force from declining bargains, the Dr. Martens organization stopped all handling in the United Kingdom, and moved their mill to China and Thailand. With this change likewise came the close of the organization's vegetarian neighborly non-cowhide items, which were processed since the early 1990s. In 2007, Doc Martens started generating footwear again in England, in the Cobbs Lane Factory in Wollaston. These items are part of the Vintage line, which the organization publicizes as being made to the first ever specs. In April 2010, the Doc Martens 14-Hole dark calfskin boot won two design recompenses at the 2010 Fashion Show in New York City - one for the most prominent men's footwear in most recent manner' and the other for 'best counter-social footwear of the decade.
