For those of you who would like a little history about Converse, the following shall educate you. Converse shoes have been around for over 100 years and they are still kickin' strong and have become more stylish than ever! Converse was founded in 1908. By the year of 1910, they were producing some 4,000 per day. In 1915, the company expanded their line to include their first athletic shoes; solely for tennis at the time.
In 1941 the U.S. entered World War II and Converse converted from athletic shoes to shoes and boots for the military. However, soon after the war ended, they went back to athletic shoes, and enjoyed something of a monopoly in the industry until the 1970s. Then suddenly, brands like Puma and Nike entered the market. Converse sales plummeted as consumers began appreciating the cleaner and simpler lines of these other brands versus the colorful high-tops of Converse hence forced to file for bankruptcy in 2001. Regardless of their fal thoughl, the Converse brand was bought out which caused new designers to be introduced, bringing the name back to market recognition and more stylish than ever. Today there are dozens of Converse designs and their classic Chuck Taylor high-tops are some of the best selling on the market. Many athletes including basketball players Udonis Haslem, JJ Barea, Kirk Hinrich, Elton Brand, Louis Williams, and Kyle Korver have all endorsed Converse. Their “Weapon” basketball shoes have also seen much success, being endorsed by Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. They were also worn by Axl Rose in the Guns N’ Roses music video “Estranged”.
So the next time you consider a pair of Converse, take a moment to keep in mind how long the brand has been around; because they’re a true American classic and one that has staying power, with good reason.
